There is a reason why residential communities often have a communal facility or two for sports and recreation. In this matter, it helps to look at non-economic and economic factors.
Real estate developments are capital intensive projects that have both social and financial impacts. The marketability of the project is often determined by the existence of a great landscape, fine residential design, quality of neighbourhood, assurance of safety, ample supply of utilities, and recreational facilities.
Throughout the growing up years of a child until adulthood, he or she will be engaged in a lot of activities, particularly those that promote personal development and social skills. Ideally, basic exposure to these sports must be found within the home and the immediate community. Thus, for homebuyers and homeowners, the provision of sport and recreation grounds within the subdivision, village or neighbourhood concerns them to a substantial degree. After all, do parents not desire their kids to have well-rounded personalities? What more benefit could there be, if there were available centres meant for recreational and educational indulgence?
Truly, the value of recreational and physical activities cannot be emphasised enough. Time and time again, they are found to have positive outcomes for the individual in terms of physical and mental health, as well as for the community in terms of social progress and overall wellbeing.
While there is a lack in the provision and promotion of sport and recreation infrastructure, there remains room for improvement. At best, the creation of such facilities should start right at the basic level - households and neighbourhoods. When there are enough centres for such activities, people will have more opportunities for participating in solutions that yield enhancement of both economic and noneconomic aspects of the society.
